Welcome to GSBM, an online business course that aims to share business management lessons and investing knowledge, gained from the experiences of business leaders and investors over last 400 years, from ancient Rice Traders in Japan, to Tulip Mania in Holland, to Commodity dealers in America, to Multi-National Corporations of 1980s, to the global Internet and Biotech ventures of today.

Some lessons have stood the test of time. For example, a key lesson is that “Technology” has been the biggest wealth creator over last 400 years. Every business has to align with new technology in its industry otherwise it will be dead in a matter of time. A better gun, a better car, a better engine, a better lamp, a better battery, a better calculator, etc — are examples of innovation and wealth creation. However, not everybody needs to do software programming or work in a biotech lab to benefit from technology. Today, we have ETFs that help in capturing the gains to a reasonable extent. But the millions will still come only from the stock options that gain value from a successful venture.

While Technology has been the biggest wealth creator, Real Estate has been the widest wealth creator, creating the maximum number of millionaires in history, because unlike Technology, it is relatively easy to get it right with Real Estate. You buy a property and hold it for 20-30 years, and the inflation will increase the property value over time. Its difficult to go wrong with a simple investment in physical Real Estate. But its very easy to go wrong with complex options or derivatives of Real Estate as we saw during the financial crisis of 2008.

We will learn more about all these topics in the GSBM Course.

Here’s a valuable interview with Azim Premji, Founder & Chairman of Wipro, one of the world’s leading Software Services companies. Azim Premji is no ordinary businessman; he is a benchmark for business success and how to use that success for the benefit of society through charity.

Fact is that many skills that actually help in making successful business and investing decisions are just not covered adequately in mainstream b-schools.

The areas that need significant understanding are human psychology, business cycles, sales training, law and legal requirements, importance of liquidity and interest rates like LIBOR, interpretation of commodity prices and forex movements, understanding of financial markets that govern capital raising chances for both start-ups and established businesses.
